Kelly Candaele has had a diverse career as a writer, filmmaker, elected official and organizer in Los Angeles. Candaele has written for the Los Angeles Times, the New York Times, The Nation, The Guardian and other publications.
His journalism has ranged from covering the conflict and peace process in Northern Ireland, political reporting, literature and films as well as baseball. As well as Northern Ireland, he has worked as a journalist and documentary filmmaker in Great Britain, Brazil, Sweden, Cuba, Spain, Argentina, Australia and Vietnam. Mr. Candaele has lectured at Hebrew University in Jerusalem, Occidental College, UCLA and taught film-producing seminars at California State University, Chico
Candaele’s films include the Emmy winning documentary A League of Their Own, about his mother’s career as a professional baseball player, a documentary on the life of assassinated Swedish Prime Minister Olof Palme, El Classico – More Than a Game, about the soccer rivalry between Real Madrid and Barcelona FC, When Hope and History Rhymed about the Peace Process in Northern Ireland and Heads, Hands, Hearts that highlighted the workers who built the Intercontinental Hotel in Los Angeles. He wrote the story for the Columbia Pictures Film A League of Their Own that starred Tom Hanks and Geena Davis.
